Know your PM Candidate : Mr. Rahul Gandhi

Name : Rahul Rajiv Gandhi
State : Though he belongs to Delhi but he represents Amethi in Uttar Pradesh
Also famously known as : Raga, Pappu, Shehazada, Yuvraj
Famous Dialogues : Potato factory, Chowkidaar chor hai, Chaiwala chor hai, Suit boot ki Sarkar
Followers : Seculars, Pappus
Opposers : Bhakts, Andh Bhakts

Accomplishments : He was born with a silver spoon. if you remember the movie 3 idiots, when a kid is born in INDIA, his/her fate is already decided by his/her parents. It was the same for Mr. Gandhi. As soon as he was born, his parents said, my kid will become the PM of INDIA someday. Thats one of his most important Qualification. He has a legacy to fulfill. Legacy of Nehru, of Indira Gandhi and of Rajiv Gandhi. He has to fill in their shoes (Not sure if these count as his achievements)

I have scouted the web to look for his accomplishments and all that I could find were the following points. (Not sure how much of it is true)

He entered politics in 2004 and won his first election from Amethi in UP beating a BJP candidate by a huge margin of around 100k votes. He was appointed general secretary of the Congress Committee and was given charge of the INDIAN Youth congress in 2007 promising to reform youth politics.

Out of all the times, he brought the most unexpected cheer to Congress in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. He proved his mettle by almost single-handedly winning more than 20 seats in Uttar Pradesh and an overall of 204 seats in the Lok Sabha.

At crucial decisive times, he brought the issues of massacre of Muslims in Modi ruled Gujarat, killing of Christians in Kandhamal and problems faced by the Dalit community, to the forefront.

Since taking up the top job in the grand-old party, Gandhi has been working extensively to woo farmers, adivasis (tribals) and OBCs - his party's traditional vote bank that got eroded in the 2014 elections.

As I said Rahul Gandhi has one important qualification because of which he might become the Prime minister, because he is an heir to the Gandhi dynasty nobody else in Congress comes close to taking up the leadership position (One might argue that Mr. Manmohan Singh was made the PM and he didn't belong to the Gandhi family but he was made the PM because Sonia Gandhi could not become the PM as she was not a natural born INDIAN citizen.)

Failures :

He is a reluctant politician. Any thing done reluctantly or half heartedly doesn't yield desired results. This is reflected in his half cooked speeches and flip-flop polical adjustments and manipulations showing a lack of clear insight in the matter. This causes him or for that matter to any body a sort of frustration.

That is why he often goes on long vacation even when his presence is polically required by his party.

He is not the CM of any state. He did not hold any cabinet position - which is quite bizarre. If we wants to the next PM a cabinet position would have been the best place to show-case his mettle.

He doesn't seem to have any notable achievement about which he can talk to the public.

Rahul Gandhi might be great politician in the eyes of his party members - but I am afraid he has not shown even a small fraction of those "great skills". He has not even taken any responsibility - except on paper he is the Congress Vice-President - but he clearly seem lacks a vision. We are yet to see any leadership qualities from this man (or atleast I haven't seen any leadership qualities yet).

So far, Rahul Gandhi has not shown any other qualities that would make him a *good* Prime Minister, but the times are such that wishing for a good Prime Minister is a far-fetched dream - because sadly, given the reality of coalition politics, and the day-to-day drama that can be created by the regional parties without whose support a government cannot survive in India today, it isn't clear that there is anyone else in any party who can actually give us a government that will last 5 years. This is evident with Priyanka Gandhi entering politics.

Overall I would rate Mr. Gandhi very low in terms of public appeal and I feel he doesn't deserve to be the PM (Atleast not for now). He hasn't seen the struggles of people and his speeches do not give me a sense of confidence that he can lead a country of 1.3 billion people.

I've tried to keep this post as unbiased as possible but feel free to post your comments and add your inputs. As always I would once again like to say that I do not belong to any political party or endorse one. I am not paid by any political party's IT cell and these are just my views. A common man expressing his common views.

As I end this second post, I would like to remind people that your vote counts and your vote matters. When you head out to vote, please vote for the right candidate, please vote for a candidate with a clean image, please vote for someone who talks development and can do development. Voting based on Emotions, Religion, Region, Caste and language isn't going to yield anything. Don't fall into their false propoganda, false gifts and false promises beacuse if you do and these people happen to win then you will lose. Dont vote for a candidate who belongs to your favourite PM candidate's party just because you want that person to be the PM. If the person from other party is good and can bring about a change then vote for that person since a PM is not going to come to you and solve your local issues.
If you think none of the candidates in your area are good then press NOTA (None of the Above). Development should be the sole goal when we head out to vote.

Let's believe in our constitution and believe that we can bring about a change.

Please exercise your right to vote.
