Chennai Floods
A month of rains and the city famous for its beaches, food and history is inundated in the worst ever floods in over 100 years. while the officials blame mother nature for this devastating floods, its time for them to think on how they plan a city and its infrastructure to be resilient enough to brave through such calamities. One can say they cannot but to much extent they can prevent such mass destruction of resources and loss of lives if they plan their constructions properly and do better disaster management. but it would be wrong to blame them alone as even the most advanced nations like America could not handle a hurricane Katrina and we could see the scale of devastation in the aftermath.
At a time when we're talking about building Smart and Super Smart cities, we also need to build them in such a way that they're fully prepared to withstand such calamities.
Well I am not posting this to talk about the poor mismanagement of the govt but for the lack of will shown by the administration in the last few weeks. I've been reading news about some members of a political party stopping relief material and putting up stickers of politicians before dispatching them. I really don't understand that even in desperate times why can't people think of their fellow humans. why cant we for once forget about politics and help those in need? there have been a few incidents where the doctors abandoned their patients and some cases where the doctors and nurses stood by their patients when they needed them the most. I also saw a few people forming a human chain to rescue a person from being washed away from the flood waters. A poor boy feeding the hungry and not thinking about himself when he is hungry himself. Muslims cooking foods in temples and Christians distributing them in vehicles being driven by our Sikh brothers. a thing to learn for our politicians that we stand united in everything and nothing divides us.
I would like to request our Bollywood stars to help the flood victims by contributing in any way they can. Chennai Express is stalled at Chennai station because of the flood water and needs the support of our reel life heroes to get it back on track. the city needs these reel life heroes to become real life heroes. I would also like the media channels to donate money and request their viewers to donate just as they do when they announce prize money for the INDIAN team if they win the world cup finals. this is even bigger than a world cup final so request you to please do something about it.
Each of us as human beings has a responsibility to reach out to help our brothers and sisters affected by disasters. One day it may be us or our loved ones needing someone to reach out and help. So Please help in whichever way you can.
Pray for Chennai _/\_ Jai Hind _/\_
