Congratulations Mr. Modi
The 2019 elections brought together the likes of Kejriwal and Rahul, Mayawati and Akhilesh, Mamta and the Congress, Lalu and Chandra Babu Naidu, in short all the political parties that were each others rivals to form one Maha Gathbandhan or the grand alliance hoping to defeat the BJP and its allies. It was said that the grand alliance had been formed to save the country and give justice to the people of the nation. This election was like Game of Thrones with Mr. Modi being portayed as Cersie Lannister and Mr. Rahul Gandhi as John Snow or Miss Mamta Banerjee as Daenerys and the Bhakts as the White walkers :P . (Sorry GOT is kind of in my mind right now so using its characters to depict our politicians).
On one end the elections were fought on the issues of development, Job creation, growth, Ram Mandir, Article 370 and on the other hand the Maha Gathbandhan had only one goal and that was to defeat the NDA by any means and that meant bringing the whole opposition together under one alliance. The only issue with the Mahagathbandhan was that they did not elect any leader for the PM's post thereby creating speculations as to who will lead the country should the Mahagathbandhan win. There were too many candidates aspiring for the PM's chair and maybe people didn't see any hope in them. Another issue I probably believe was that the Mahagathbandhan would be a government of alliance meaning none of the parties would have absolute majority and it would probably be an unstable government. This is one the reasons they probably lost. (One could argue that even in 2004 BJP had its INDIA shining campaign and had projected the late Mr. Vajpayee for the PM's post and Congress did not name anybody and yet they won.)
With straight defeats in the state elections, BJP no longer looked invincible. They lost some allies because of their over confidence and because of the way they treated them. By 2017 the Modi wave had faded because of the Demonitization, rise in unemployment and the dictorial attitude of our Prime Minister. The Modi Government had thus far carried forward a regime of false promises and caused setback after setback to farmers, medium scale industrialists and to the secular ideology of this country.
Fast forward to 2019 and it seems BJP and its allies have won. The saffron wave not only swept through the Hindi heartland and Gujarat, but also rippled through West Bengal, Odisha, Maharashtra and Karnataka. After Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, Narendra Modi is also the third prime minister of India who has been able to retain power for a second term with full majority in Lok Sabha. In the end it turned out that Mr. Shah was the dragon (Drogon) that slayed them all.
Meanwhile after the loss Pappu is telling the Mahagathbandhan ki apna time aayega ;) Eventually it will.. someday.
So what does this mean for the commoners like us? Well, To start with we will have a stable government, one that can take bold decisions (I don't mean another Demonitization ;) but you may never know. ) and one that can continue towards development and growth. But it also means that we should be ready for more jhumlas, more bans, more lynchings, more changes in names of places, more foreign visits, more man ki baat, ghar wapsis, azaadi brigade, dharnas and all the dramas that happened in the last 5 years. That's not going to go away so soon. Having said that I would like to remind our PM and his ministers that with this win you must understand that the people have showed their trust in you so please do not betray them.
I would like to congratulate the PM and his ministers for their victory and would also remind them that their work is not finished yet. We need to build an INDIA that our forefathers envisioned and for that you will need to include everyone in the process. INDIA is not a country of just Hindus, It's a secular nation and will always remain the same. So please do not try to break the secular fabric of INDIA. Please don't try to steal that identity from us which makes us unique in the world. Please try to keep religious fanatics and their supporters at bay. Also requesting the opposition to accept their defeat gracefully. Please don't blame the EVM's.
A humble request to all our politicians to shelve their differences and acrimony and get down to doing actual work for which they have been elected, refrain from deepening fissures already created by them between religions, regions, castes and civil society. Also hoping that our politicians bring improvements in education policy, covering the rural areas in its ambit, professional colleges, education enabling employability, vocational training and skill development centres, Bring in a law for death penalty for gang rapes. Raise minimum punishment for rape to 30 yrs and more with hard labour. Invest in R&D and also invest in bridging the huge income gap between the rich and the poor. The slogan of Sabka saath sabka vikas will only become a reality if and only if you have the will to do so. Merely coining a dialogue and not doing anything towards making it a reality will hurt you and the country in the long term. Let's not make religion important than development.
I would also like our politicians to work towards building bridges, not walls. Books, not weapons. Morality, not corruption. Intellectualism and wisdom, not ignorance. Stability, not fear and terror. Peace, not chaos. Love, not hate. Convergence, not segregation. Tolerance, not discrimination. Fairness, not hypocrisy. Substance, not superficiality. Character, not immaturity. Transparency, not secrecy. Justice, not lawlessness. Environmental improvement and preservation, not destruction. Truth, not lies.
While I hope all of this will come true but I also know that as usual public will get a lovely Thenga(Middle finger) in all of the cases ;) I hope I am wrong :)
" If we desire a society of peace, then we cannot achieve such a society through violence. If we desire a society without discrimination, then we must not discriminate against anyone in the process of building this society. If we desire a society that is democratic, then democracy must become a means as well as an end. " _/\_
